Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Sweetness: Off-dry
Acidity: Medium
Body: Full
Alcohol: 14.1%
Bottle size: 750ml
Wine making: (a) This year’s selection comprised 10 Chardonnay clones – 8 Burgundian clones plus California clone 04 and the acclaimed heritage Weimer Selection – that together create the complexity in aromas and flavours; (b) After destemming, the whole berries were placed in the press for a very gentle release of the Chardonnay juice; (c) The juice was chilled further in stainless steel, inoculated with select yeast and transferred to French oak barrels (50% new) to complete primary fermentation in the estate’s wine cave; (d) The wine remained in contact with the lees in the barrel for approximately 10 months, during which time the wine underwent the malolactic fermentation.
From the winery:
“The Antica Napa Valley 2018 Mountain Select Chardonnay offers vibrant, mouth-filling flavours of baked apple, pear tart and apricot. This savoury wine is layered with delicate toasty notes that fill in the mid-palate and linger through a well-framed finish.”
91 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Chardonnay Mountain Select features fresh Bosc pears, ripe nectarines and lemon curd notes with touches of lime leaves and hay. Medium-bodied, elegant and lively in the mouth, it has a restrained, understated character and chalky finish."
93 points, James Suckling
“A tight, linear white with sliced green apples and hints of lemons. Some praline character underneath. Full-bodied, firm and focused. Shows Burgundian sensibility with its firmness and linear tension. Drink or hold.”
“The name Antica originates from the words Antinori and California, and represents the Antinori family’s longstanding desire to craft exceptional estate wines that are a true expression of Napa Valley terroir. The Antinori’s family’s 26 generations of winemaking history has long been synonymous with the famed winegrowing regions of Tuscany and Umbria. Today, their wines are among the most recognized and highly rated of Italy.
Like the winery name, the winery production is also an Old World/New World blend, with Antinori Chief Enologist Renzo Cotarella and the Antica winemaking team working together to craft the finest expression from each vintage and vineyard block, from vine to bottle.”
