Castello di Fonterutoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2017
Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
"Powerful, Complex, Structured”
Forty years of research into Sangiovese, the grapes from high-attitude hills and slope facing the Elsa Valley make Castello Fonterutoli the real Château of Chianti Classico. Deep ruby colour, intense aromas of violet, cherries, ripe plum mingled together with spice, leather and chocolate. The palate is powerful, rich yet harmonic and elegant. An excellent Chianti Classico Gran Selezione!

"Lots of ripe fruit with walnuts, tile, dried berries and chocolate powder. Full-bodied, velvety and chewy. This is a very powerful and structured Chianti Classico that will rival many top Brunellos."
93 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The Mazzei 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli is Sangiovese with a tiny component of Malvasia Nera. The wine is elegantly streamlined and subtle—in fact, more so than I would have expected from this largely opulent and exuberant vintage. The bouquet is both floral and fruity with wild berry, rose hip, lavender and cassis. These aromas are central to the Sangiovese playlist. This wine delivers on all the fundamental elements, although I feel that we got a little more depth and delineation in the previous, cooler-vintage release. The tannins are silky and elegant."
Castello di Fonterutoli has belonged to the Mazzei family since 1435. The history of the Mazzei family is closely linked to the political and cultural history of Tuscany. This family has a long lasting and strong bonding with wine since the XI century.
Today as in the past, the Mazzei family leads the legacy of their know-how at the place where everything started, at Castello di Fonterutoli, one of the most important institutions of Chianti Classico and Tuscany, with an outstanding history and a bright future ahead.
