Prunotto Barbaresco 2016

$338.00

Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy

“Red Fruit, Elegant, Noble”

The wine is the feminine expression of Nebbiolo.  It is noble / aristocratic yet accessible and pleasant.  Medium garnet in colour, a lovely Barbaresco with notes of red fruits characters such as red cherry and strawberry, along with violet blossom and hints of cinnamon and spicy.  Intense fruity palate with oaky flavour, powerful yet elegant, medium+ bodied , complex, well-balanced and a persistent finish.  Suggest sufficient decanting time (at least 2 hours).

From the winery:

“Barbaresco is an intense garnet red in color.  The nose is complex with aromas of red fruit and spicy notes.  The palate is full and velvety with a persistent finish.”

94 points, Wine Spectator, Dec 2019

Delicate floral and red fruit aromas and flavors peek through the eucalyptus, tar and tobacco notes and muscular profile of this red, though it will take some time for them to emerge and occupy center stage.  This version is balanced, elegant and long in the end.  Best from 2023 through 2040"

93 points, James Suckling

"Dried-strawberry and watermelon aromas as well as white truffle, follow through to a full body with lots of ripe fruit and a velvety, juicy finish.  Drink from 2022"

90 points, Wine Enthusiast, Sep 2019

“Aromas of oak, toasted hazelnut and ripe berry mingle with coconut and menthol. The aromas carry over to the linear, tightly wound palate along with sour cherry and coffee bean.  Give it a few years to unwind.  Drink 2024–2030.” - KERIN O’KEEFE

“Prunotto has been producing great wines for a century.  To maintain more control over the wines, they produce wines from personally-owned vineyards.  The winery is famous in careful selection of top-quality grapes, passionate love in winemaking by investing in qualitative development of all the vineyard.” – Importer’s note

“Prunotto, now owned by the Tuscan firm of Antinori, continues to turn out superlative examples of Piedmotese wines.”- Robert Parker
