Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc 2020

$208.00

Adelaide Hills, Australia

“Crisp, Vibrant, Tropical”

Pale lemon in colour.  Pronounced aromas of citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruits (passion fruit) and gooseberry.  On palate, explosive flavour intensity, medium-bodied, crisp acidity yet overall well-balanced with a long finish.  A benchmark for Adelaide Hills, and Australian, Sauvignon Blanc.  Wonderful!

*Suggest to be served well-chilled (6°c to 8°c)

95 points, The Real Review, Aug 2020

"Delicious sauvignon blanc with fragrant lemon, citrus, wild flowers, white peach and stone fruit flavours. It has a truly ethereal texture and gentle, fruity acidity. Power delivered with great subtlety. Wonderful purity."

93 points, James Suckling, Jul 2020

"A very fresh, ripe and mouthwatering edition of this staple Adelaide Hills sauvignon that has such intense perfume, ranging from jasmine to nectarines, limes, peaches, passion fruit, melon and more. The palate is a riot of fresh, fleshy passion-fruit, nectarine and lime flavor. Very supple, fleshy and complete."

93 points, Decanter,  Aug 2020

The familiar Shaw + Smith take on clean, lean Sauvignon Blanc continues to confidently champion a distinctive Adelaide Hills style rather than chase other more overt and pungent examples. The nose is full and ripe, more zesty grapefruit than gooseberry, with the slightest hint of cut lawn. The body is too slim to slide into tropical fruit territory, with its firm acidic spine keeping the citrus accent sharp and crisp. Friendly and self-assured, it’s a worthy dinner table companion." - David Sly

Shaw + Smith was established in 1989 by cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw. They make wines exclusively from the Adelaide Hills, from varieties that suit the cooler climate: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.  Shaw + Smith own two vineyards, in Lenswood and Balhannah.

From the estate vineyards at Balhannah and Lenswood, complemented by fruit from a small number of highly valued growers. 2020 is the 31st vintage that Shaw + Smith has made. It has become known as a benchmark for Adelaide Hills, and Australian, Sauvignon Blanc.
